During the month of February, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) celebrates American Heart Month by bringing attention to the importance of heart health and stressing the need of reducing the likelihood that individuals will develop heart disease. The importance of maintaining good heart health has never been higher, and there are a lot of things you can do to reduce your risk of developing heart disease.
To get others to join you, encourage them. Work needs to be done more, and you have the ability to assist!
Here are our tips on how to participate <3
1. Help spread the word about the significance of physical activity in preventing heart disease by working with local recreation and fitness establishments to disseminate information online.
2. Visit your neighborhood pharmacy or grocery store and inquire about the possibility of inserting a fact sheet containing heart-health information into prescription or shopping bags.
3. Get your group, friends, and family involved by making a Pinterest board full of dishes that are good for your heart.
Post it where anybody can see it and invite people to share their favorite recipes. For more pinnable ideas, check out the Heart Truth’s® Pinterest board.
4. Learn new dishes that are good for your heart by enrolling in an online cooking class with your family and friends. Or you could also include your children in one!
5. Organize a “steps” competition and encourage your group to take part in it. Identify the squad that walks the most distance by using activity trackers.
6. To encourage one another in your efforts to achieve your goals of managing your weight, eating healthier, quitting smoking, or working out, you should establish an online support group with people from all over the world.
7. Engage in greater physical activity while watching television by performing exercises such as jumping jacks or push-ups during commercial breaks, or simply by standing up and stretching.
8. Every week, give a different recipe a shot. You could ask your friends and family members to share with you their favorite recipe that is good for your heart. There is a wide selection of recipes available on the website of the NHLBI.
